Walif is a service that puts Dubai residents and visitors in touch with the city's activities, people, and merchants.
By collecting useful information about users' preferences and their extended networks, tracking recommendations, and with engaging editorial features like creative list making, Walif is able to provide highly accurate search results and suggestions.
Walif is available as a website and mobile application for Apple and Android users.
Finding connections through existing networks, based on a unique set of collected information makes Walif the first platform of its kind.
A more intuitive and natural keyword search allows you to look for businesses and people not just by categories but by entering specific terms.
The action of following, either an entity or a person, creates a connection that gets mapped in the system, and is then showed to other users.
Users I follow and the users connected to them.
Businesses I follow and my connections that also follow that business. Connections with a business are traced whenever an interaction takes place.
A connection is mapped when a user:
People that follow the lists that I follow
The benefit of searching with Walif is that you can search using popular keywords or with specific descriptions to find exactly what you're looking for. For example: italian laundry, romantic sushi restaurant, cheap reliable plumber. You can search by the name of a business or service and even add a location or an area. For example: Coya - Dusit Thani Hotel. An autocomplete feature shows you suggestions based on the letters typed and there is a default "near me" option that requests geolocation to enable it. Users only need to type "me" to initiate the "let's go" search.
To see content published by a specific type of user, expert or friend, click the filter icon on the right of the search bar and specify the category and subcategory.
Add multiple keywords to the search bar. For example: when searching for a cheap italian laundry, type the words "cheap italian laundry" then type enter to initiate the search.
Click on the dropdown menu from the search panel. Select "businesses and retailers", then select "people". You can search by name or use attributes and keywords to search people by job function. For example: english doctors, fun developers, etc.
Click on the dropdown menu and select "businesses and retailers", then select "list". Search by list name or by an attribute suggested in the field below, then click "let's go." For example: italian restaurants, kids fun - tourist attractions.
Stay updated on what happens at Walif. Follow people, businesses, retailers, and lists to receive related activity notifications, like if a friend posts a review, or if a business publishes a deal. If the owner of a list makes any changes, the followers of the List will also be updated.
From the profile page of the followed user you can disable feeds or notifications. When you follow a user, notifications about the activity of this user are automatically enabled. For example: if the user follows a business, creates a new list or rates/reviews an activity you get a notification. While this may be interesting to some people it could be overwhelming to people following a lot of users.
By clicking on the (W+) button on a business' page you are following the business and will automatically receive information about deals, promotions and related activities.
We invented a new way to help you keep track of your favorite businesses and retailers. Saving your selections is great, but being able to organize them into personal lists is even better, especially when you can see lists other people are making. Planning a night out and want to try some new places? See what Walif says then make a special list and send to friends for their opinion. Your sister's in town with kids? Be prepared with Walif. Make a list of kid-friendly activities, businesses, and even doctors and babysitters to share.
Creating a list is easy. Edit the old ones, create new ones, or snag other users’ favorite lists to see what they find interesting around town.
Find an interesting list but want to make some changes? Just save the list to make it your own then modify it however you like. Privacy levels can be customised, depending on who you want to have access. The more lists you make, the better chance you have to receive points and rewards.
A list needs to have at least one business in it. To create a new list you can go to a business page, or type a business title in the search bar to find a business to add, and click on the "add to list" button. A window will open that prompts you to create a new list if none are created, then simply add the selected business.
Be creative when naming your lists to encourage followers and help your list be more easily found. If you wish, you can then define the privacy level.
